QUICK Onion Garlic Naan

This is the quick version of the fluffy soft naan finished with onion and garlic. They are so easy and quick to make and once you try the home made version you will never buy them from the shops. I top these here with onion, garlic and a hint of chilli but you can add some coriander or ginger or any other herb as well.

Enjoy these with any curry of your choice, some dal or use it as a wrap to full with delicious things. Though I do love them on its own with a cup of tea as well.

Makes 8

For the dough

  • 250 gms plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 200 gms natural yogurt
  • 5-6 tbsp water

For the topping

  • 4 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion seeds

Start by preparing the dough. In a bowl mix the flour, salt, chilli powder and baking powder. Now add the yogurt and mix well. Slowly add the water, 1 tbsp at a time and form a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Meanwhile prepare the topping. Mix all the topping ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.

Divide the dough into 8 portions. Roll out each portion on a lightly floured surface to a circle, roughly 6-7 inches big. Now put a bit of the onion mix on top and gently press it in.

Heat a skillet or a flat pan and cook the naan on each side for 2 minutes on medium-low heat. Once golden brush with some ghee or butter and serve immediately.

If you are not eating it straight away then make sure to wrap in a cloth or some foil and put it in an airtight box to keep them warm and soft.
