The nation’s favourite Curry!
On Thursday I had a chance to go on Simon Mayo’s Drivetime show on BBC Radio 2 to reveal the Nation’s favourite curry as voted by the listeners. It turns out that the favourite curry of the nation is Jalfrezi! You can now try My Jafrezi recipe here. I had an absolutely amazing time on the show. You can listen to the Drivetime program on this link and find me at 17:00.

Pastry week
It was week 6 the Great British Bake Off and the bakers were faced with baking pastry. The first challenge was Frangipane Tarts. The lovely Kate Henry recently made amazing Frangipane on my YouTube channel and you can find the frangipane cakes video here
The bakers had to make short crust pastry while avoiding getting soggy bottoms! Alvin’s Plum frangipane tart looked good but it was not done properly. Paul’s Christmas tarts looked very interesting. Mat’s Pinacolada tart sounded and looked great but Paul found it a bit bland.
Nadiya’s tart ended up with a soggy bottom. Paul found Flora’s tart burnt but Mary seemed to like the flavours. Alvin did not have a good morning but was determined to fight on.
The technical challenge was to make Flaounas. These savoury bakes are from Cyprus and are made by using yeast in the pastry. No one had ever heard of these before and like technical challenges in the past bakers struggled with the very basic instructions. In the end Tamal and Alvin were at the bottom while Mat’s Flaounas were judged the best.
The showstopper challenge was to make 70s classic Vol-au-vents. Bakers needed to make 2 versions of these with their own pastry, ofcourse. Nadiya had a bad round as she ran out of time but her fillings were great. Mat’s flavours and baking were much liked by the judges. Alvin’s vol-au-vents were a bit raw and in the end it was Nadiya and Alvin who were in trouble this week.
In the end, Nadiya’s flavours saved her and it was Alvin’s turn to leave the tent while Mat was awarded star baker.
