Potato and Peas Cheesy Balls
A definite crowd pleaser! These tasty treats are crispy, gooey and oozing with flavour.
Ingredients
4 large potatoes, I like using desiree potatoes
120g frozen peas
1 tsp chaat masala
½ tsp garam masala
½ tsp salt
½ tsp chilli powder
1 mozzarella ball
2 tbsp plain flour
2 tbsp cornflour
3 tbsp fine bread crumbs
sunflower/vegetable/rapeseed oil
Method
– Peel and roughly chop the potatoes. Add to a pan and cover in water. Cook for 8-10 minutes until soft.
– Bring a small pan to a boil. Add the peas and cook for 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
– Drain the potatoes and let them cool for 5 minutes.
– Grate or mash the potatoes in a large bowl. Add the chaat masala, garam masala, salt, chilli powder, and peas. Mix well.
– Take a lemon-sized portion of potato mixture and form it into a ball. Make an indent and stuff it with a small piece of cheese. Form back into a ball to seal the cheese inside. Repeat the process with the rest of the potato mix.
– Add the flour and cornflour to a bowl. Slowly mix in a little bit of water at a time until you get a thin batter consistency.
– Dip a potato ball into the flour mix and thoroughly coat. Tap off any excess. Then, dip the ball into the bread crumbs and thoroughly coat. Tap off any excess and place it on a plate. Repeat the process with all the potato balls.
– Add plenty of oil to a large hot pan. Once it is hot, drop a ball at a time into the oil. Fry until golden all around.
– Once cooked, remove them from the pan and place them onto some kitchen roll to remove any excess oil.
You can serve this with ketchup or any other condiments – I like to serve mine with coriander and mint chutney!
