Ingredients
200g toor dal
600ml water
salt
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 brown onion, thinly sliced
oil of choice
4 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1 tsp cumin seeds
300g tenderstem broccoli, roughly chopped
½ tsp chilli powder
black pepper
1 tsp mango powder/ amchoor powder
Method
– Place the dal, water, 1 tsp of salt, and turmeric powder in your pressure cooker or pan. Cook for 5-7 minutes in a pressure cooker or 25 minutes in a regular pan. Once it is cooked leave it to sit in the pressure cooker for 10 minutes to release the pressure.
– Add 2-3 tbsp of oil to a hot pan. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle before you add the onions. Cook for 5 minutes until slightly golden.
– Add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.
– Add the broccoli and a splash of water. Cook on medium heat with the lid on for 5 minutes.
– Add the chilli powder, a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and mango powder. Stir through.
– Add the dal to the pan. Use 50ml of water to remove the remaining dal from the pressure cooker. Bring to a boil.
Time to serve! I like mine with piping hot basmati rice.
