Chana Dal Fry

I love this Chana Dal recipe. It’s creamy, wholesome, and easy to make – perfect for a weeknight family dinner.
Serves 4 people.

If you have a pressure cooker then you can use this to cook the chana dal in 15 minutes. However, don’t worry if you don’t have one! You can also cook this with a regular pan in 45 – 60 minutes.

Ingredients
500g chana dal (split chickpeas)
1 tsp turmeric
1 ½ tsp salt
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 green chillies, roughly chopped
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp dried mango powder/ lime juice

Method
– Rinse and drain the chana dal once. Add to the pressure cooker or pan.

– Add turmeric and salt. Then, add 1.5L of water. Mix well.

– Add to the hob and cook for 15 minutes in the pressure cooker or 45 – 60 minutes in a regular pan. Once cooked, let it sit for 15 minutes to cool down.

– In a small hot pan, add the ghee, cumin seeds, and green chillies. Cook for 1 minute then turn the heat off and let it sit.

– Add the cumin powder, garam masala, chilli powder, and dried mango powder. Mix well.

– Transfer the cook chana dal to a serving bowl. Drizzle the ghee and spice mix on top.

I like to serve this recipe with some basmati rice or with some piping-hot chapati.
